Goochland supervisors OK controversial data center district proposal

Goochland County’s Board of Supervisors has approved a controversial new zoning measure to court data center development in the eastern end of the county.

Goochland and Henrico residents spoke against the measure during a public hearing at Goochland High School Auditorium that started at 6:30 p.m. last Thursday but stretched past midnight, but the opposition wasn’t enough to sway supervisors from approving the measure in a 4–1 vote.

District 5 Supervisor Jonathan Lyle, the lone vote against the Technology Overlay District and Technology Zone ordinance, asked fellow supervisors to delay the vote: “I would have liked to have seen this before tonight. As written, I just can’t support this measure, so I’d like us to defer a vote til next year.”…
