HOUSTON (CW39) — Mayor John Whitmire has confirmed that the City of Houston is cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) — a shift from earlier statements denying local involvement in immigration enforcement.
Speaking over the weekend at a policy conference, Whitmire said it wouldn’t be accurate to claim Houston isn’t cooperating, adding that refusing to work with ICE could actually bring more federal agents into the city.
