Medium Rare in Houston giving away steak to SNAP, EBT card holders

Multiple businesses in the Houston area have volunteered to help folks affected by the current federal government shutdown—the longest of its kind in U.S. history. But I don’t know any businesses that are handing out steak frites.

The Houston location of the restaurant Medium Rare is offering a complimentary lunch of steak frites and a soft drink to anyone with a SNAP or EBT card from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday. A spokesperson for the Midtown restaurant at 3201 Louisiana St. said the move was part of the restaurant’s mission to fight food insecurity through community action.

Coincidentally, we’re getting close to Medium Rare’s first anniversary in Houston. The Washington D.C.-based restaurant chain opened its debut Houston location last November at The Mix, a mixed-use development that houses some colorful restaurants. (Its location in Suite 110 is where the old Artisan’s used to be.)…
