WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A Rose Hill woman was sentenced to nearly 18 years (215 months) in prison on Monday for the death of her adopted daughter.
In August, Crystina Schroer entered a plea of no contest to a reduced charge of second-degree murder of 6-year-old Kennedy Schroer, named Natalie Garcia at birth. In addition to the amended murder charge, she also entered no contest pleas to child abuse, making false information, and theft of more than $15,000 but less than $25,000.
Authorities found Kennedy buried in the backyard of the family’s home in Rose Hill in September 2024, and her death triggered an extensive investigation by law enforcement. Investigators believe she died in November 2020, when she would have been 6 years old.

At Monday’s hearing, the judge said the sentence must run consecutively and that Crystina will be required to register as a violent offender for 15 years after she’s released from prison.
