Arizona blood bank can’t shake consumer fraud claim

PHOENIX (CN) — A state judge declined to dismiss an Arizona Consumer Fraud Act claim against a private blood banking company in Tucson, but acknowledged that the complaint is likely overbroad and should be reined in moving forward.

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes accuses Cord Blood Registry Inc, called CBR, of misleading new Arizona parents with unbacked promises of stem cell treatment for more than 80 rare diseases. Because the promises are made online by a company with a national presence, CBR attorneys say the claims it makes cannot be subject to a local law.
