Mid-South Food Bank demand rises as SNAP benefits lapse

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — As lawmakers work to reopen the government and restore SNAP benefits, the Mid-South Food Bank is handling an increased demand for food.

Organizers said they’ve received calls from parents of disabled children in need or callers who said they would’ve gone hungry without the Mid-South Food Bank’s help.

With high grocery prices, a government shutdown, and a lapse in SNAP benefits, hundreds and thousands of Mid-South families are going hungry…
