BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — As freezing temperatures move into central Alabama, the Jimmie Hale Mission said it has run out of coats to give out. It is calling on the community for help.
Staff at the downtown Birmingham shelter said over 50 people came through its warming station Sunday night. With temperatures expected to fall below freezing again, it’s anticipating double that number Monday night.
“I know a lot of homeless people,” said Briana Banks, who once turned to Jimmie Hale for help when she had nowhere else to go. “I was one of those homeless people, and having a warming station just makes a big difference.”
