Weather Alerts
This is where bands of heavy lake effect snow will develop Sunday night and continue into Monday. Heavy lake effect snow showers will continue across the primary snowbelt through Tuesday afternoon. Low visibility and slushy roads will slow down travelers, especially on Monday morning. Gusty winds and the weight of leaves still on the trees and heavy, wet accumulating snow could bring down tree branches and cause power outages. Even though not everyone will be under an advisory, everyone will see snow for the first time this season on Sunday night.
Snow will continue to mix in with the rain as the coldest air of the season continues to spill into Northeast Ohio Sunday evening. The wintry mix of rain and snow will turn to all snow by 10 p.m. on Sunday. Bands of heavy lake effect snow will start to develop Sunday night. With a north wind, lake effect snow showers will develop outside of the primary snowbelt as well.

Snowfall rates within the heaviest bands of lake effect snow could exceed 1″ per hour. Snow coming down this hard will significantly drop drivers’ visibility. Plus, the heavy snow could overcome the warm ground, so slushy spots on the roads could develop.
Initially, the warm ground and above-freezing temperatures will prevent the snow from sticking. Much of the snow that falls Sunday night will only stick to your yard and elevated surfaces. Once again, slushy spots of the roads could develop where the heaviest bands of lake effect snow showers persist. Here’s a look at potential snowfall totals through noon on Monday. Remember – lake effect snow showers will continue through Monday, mainly across the primary snowbelt.
Temperatures will bottom out in the upper 20s and lower 30s Sunday night into Monday morning. However, gusty north winds will make it feel even colder. Wind chills will be in the lower to mid-20s on Monday morning. Make sure you and the kids are bundled up first thing Monday morning.
With the wind becoming more northwesterly, the bands of lake effect snow showers will shift east and primarily impact the primary snowbelt Monday afternoon/evening. This is where the evening commute home will be impacted the most. The lake effect snow showers may not even taper off until Tuesday morning or Tuesday afternoon.
Everyone will see the first snowfall of the season Sunday night into Monday. Here is the snowfall forecast from Sunday night through Monday night. The heaviest snow during this time will fall in the primary snowbelt. This is where 3-6″ plus of snow will fall – locally higher amounts will be possible in the higher elevations.
Monday will be the coldest day so far this fall, with afternoon temperatures only in the lower to mid-30s. Winds chills on Monday will only be in the 20s throughout the day.
Wind chills will be in the teens in some spots Tuesday morning.
Veterans Day will be cold for everyone and snowy for some. Highs on Tuesday will still only be in the 30s.
The cold snap will be brief. Temperatures will rebound on Wednesday.
