MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — With Thanksgiving just around the corner, the owner of Little Pigs BBQ, a mom-and-pop restaurant, says the prices for turkeys this year are impacting his annual deep-fried turkey specials.
Two years ago, Jason Rogers says he sold his deep-fried turkeys for roughly $35-40, but he says because of inflation increasing his prices for his turkeys, he had to follow, now costing customers $65 a pop.
“The turkeys are four times higher than when I started. Last year, we were paying like 59 cents a pound, and now it’s over a dollar a pound. It doesn’t sound like a lot on a turkey, but when you’re doing 150 turkeys — each weighing 15 pounds each — that’s a big jump,” he said. “It’s not just the turkey. The oil costs more than the turkeys. They’ve doubled in price and I have to use gallons of it to do that many turkeys. You can’t use the same oil for more than two or three turkeys before that. That oil, you know, not really fit to be used again.”…
