Providence to become 2nd RI city with sound cameras, preparing for pilot program in 2026

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Providence will be the second Rhode Island city to test out so-called sound camera technology in an effort to nab noise violators and improve quality of life.

Newport began testing out various forms of technology in response to a rise in noise-related complaints, from drivers blasting music to the jolt of a vehicle with a modified engine speeding down the road.
