Local veterans awarded Quilts of Valor ahead of Veterans Day

DES MOINES, Iowa — Local veterans were awarded with Quilts of Valor on Monday ahead of Veterans Day.

One of the recipients was Vietnam Veteran Ken Gray. He served in the U.S. Army from 1972 to 1975. Gray said being awarded with the quilt meant a lot to him.

“The quilt is supposed to be more of a physical thing to make you feel comfortable, to make you feel relaxed, loved I guess, if you put it that way,” Gray said. “It’s something that not very many of us got when we came back 50 years ago. It means a lot to us.”

Gray was joined by other veterans who were awarded with a quilt on Monday as well as veterans who had been awarded with a quilt in the past…
