UNL launches winter drive to aid students in need

LINCOLN, Neb. — As temperatures drop in Nebraska, the University of Nebraska Lincoln is ramping up efforts to support students through its annual winter drive. The initiative, led by the Husker Pantry, aims to collect 3,500 items by Nov. 12 to assist students facing food and personal supply shortages.

Kenji Madison, director of the pantry, emphasized the inclusive nature of the service. “The Husker Pantry has been going on for almost 10 years now. And this has been a staple portion of our basic needs service here on campus. We don’t care where you come from, what you’re dealing with, if a student has a need or they proclaim to have a need they can come to the pantry and we fulfill those needs to the best of our ability,” Madison said.

With the holidays approaching and campus closures imminent, Madison highlighted the importance of the drive. “With the holidays around the corner and the campus shutdown, we try to have the drive to help keep our shelf full and to assure every student who places an order with the pantry can get everything that they need to help them during this critical time of year,” he said…
