ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — As discussion over the allocation of SNAP benefits continues at the federal level, food pantries in the Rockford area are struggling to meet increased demand.
The Belvidere Salvation Army Corp. purchases and sets out boxes full of food each morning for people to come and get. Since the beginning of November, most of the food put out each day is gone before noon.
“Well, it’s a little bit it’s a little bit hard because sometimes you run out of food and you wish that you had enough for everyone,” Rivera said. “We have seen a higher number of people coming through and an increased need. It’s kind of heartfelt for us to try to get as much as we can and put out as much as we can so people can have what they need.”…
