Storm Track 3 Forecast: Let the warming begin, weekend rain chance

What a cold start for our workweek!  Multiple towns experienced temps in the teens this morning.  The Kansas Mesonet shows we fell to 10 degrees shortly after 7 AM in Norton and Phillipsburg!  There was a lapse in data for Great Bend and Dodge City. The Dodge City National Weather Service reports Dodge City fell to 19 degrees this morning and the Wichita National Weather Service says Great Bend’s low temperature today was 18 degrees.

High pressure is overhead and our cold culprit.  This will track to the east over the next 24.

Southerly winds kicked in on the backside and will allow temps to warm. Overnight, temperatures will drop, then stabilize, and even start to warm ahead of dawn due to this wind shift.

We will not be as cold into Tuesday morning with temps beginning mainly in the 30s and 40s in Elkhart.  Highs by the afternoon will climb to the 60s and 70s.

There is a minor wind switch tomorrow but does little to lower temps.  Highs will stay consistently in the 60s with more 70s thrown in for the southwest.  Winds ramp up by Friday and temps stretch to the 70s across the state.

A storm system this weekend will take a southerly track.  Rain is expected from Saturday into Sunday. We may have enough instability for a clap of thunder or two.

Colder air will work behind the cold front.  We will keep an eye on any residual moisture, but it looks like it exits in enough time ahead of the colder air to keep snow concerns low.

Weather model guidance has been showing two more strong storm systems next week.  One on Wednesday that could have more cold air to work with, and another system timed for the following weekend.  We are getting closer to Thanksgiving and a higher likelihood of travel.  The second half of the month will be better for moisture than the first half.
