Sparks residents exempt from proposed responder fee; nonresidents may face $527 charge

The city of Sparks is trying to clear up confusion over a proposed first responder fee — a new charge that could soon apply to some emergency medical calls in the city.

So what’s the proposal? If you call 911 in Sparks, are treated by Sparks Fire paramedics, and then transported to the hospital by REMSA, you could be charged a $527 first responder fee.

The fee is already common in other states, but it would be the first of its kind in Nevada…
