Estacada house fire doused thanks to neighbor with extinguisher

A quick-thinking Estacada neighbor armed with a portable extinguisher was able to buy time for firefighters.

Sunday afternoon, Nov. 9, Estacada Fire crews responded to a reported structure fire off Northeast Hill Way. While emergency crews were en route, a neighbor grabbed a portable fire extinguisher to slow the spread of flames.

Estacada Fire arrived on scene within 3 minutes from dispatch to find light smoke from the eaves of the structure, confirmed the fire had not spread into the attic, and then ventilated the home. Firefighters said the cause was a faulty bathroom fan. The home was turned back over to the owners and was safe to re-occupy later that same day. No injuries were reported…
