Boxing program fighting to stay alive after losing gym

CINCINNATI — A local boxing program known for keeping at-risk youth off the streets is now struggling to stay on its feet after losing its gym when a nearby school shut down.

Oasis Boxing Club, led by longtime coach Darryl “P-Man” Jones, was locked out of its gym earlier this year after Dohn Community High School abruptly closed in March amid allegations of financial mismanagement. The program’s equipment is still trapped inside the building, which has since fallen into disrepair.

“We’re fighters, and we got to do what we got to do,” Jones said. “I prefer we have our own equipment, but we can’t get to our equipment ’cause it’s locked in.”…
