Injured South Carolina trooper released from hospital after six weeks of recovery

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — The South Carolina State Trooper who was hit and severely injured by a driver in Lexington County was released from Lexington Regional Rehabilitation Hospital Friday after spending six weeks recovering.

Master Trooper Wayne LaBounty was hit and injured while performing a traffic stop on Sept. 9. The incident occurred when a Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputy slowed down to check on the trooper during the stop. During that time, a vehicle traveling in the same lane as the deputy failed to stop and struck several vehicles, the deputy’s patrol car, the vehicle pulled over by the trooper, another unrelated vehicle, and the trooper, who was outside of his vehicle at the time.

LaBounty was left in serious condition and was airlifted from the scene. He has since recovered and has been officially discharged…
