FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – On Nov. 10, 1969, the children’s educational program “Sesame Street” made its debut on National Educational Television, now known as PBS.
It all began as a conversation at a dinner party three years earlier, when a friend mentioned to the show’s creator, Joan Ganz Cooney, that his daughter was fixated on television. Cooney then met with childhood development and education experts to learn how to make TV educational.
Test episodes showed that preschoolers responded strongly to the interaction between humans and muppets. While teaching kids the alphabet and numbers, it also covers difficult topics, such as death and dealing with natural disasters…
