Iconic Kzoo bookstore to reopen for community book sale

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The historic Michigan News Agency in Kalamazoo will open its doors one more time months after the death of its owner.

On Nov. 22, 28 and 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the store will reopen to the public for a community book sale to sell off its remaining merchandise. It has been closed since its owner, Dean Hauck, died in February.

Kalamazoo community remembers owner of iconic bookstore

Under Hauck’s leadership, the store became a downtown Kalamazoo landmark. Her father opened the business in 1947, and she spent her childhood helping around the store before taking over in 1988.

All books will be 50% off and proceeds will go toward Kalamazoo Forward Venture’s “ongoing efforts to advance local small-business initiatives and encourage vibrant community gathering in the heart of Kalamazoo.” KzFV purchased the bookstore’s building, 302-308 West Michigan Avenue earlier this year, according to their social media
