Homegrown help: Lexington volunteers send love, support to troops overseas

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Inside a small workspace off Clays Mill Road, boxes are stacked to the ceiling — each one filled with snacks, letters, and love from Kentuckians who refuse to let any service member feel forgotten.

For nearly 20 years, Military Missions has been a lifeline for deployed troops. What began on a mom’s dining room table has grown into a massive volunteer effort that ships tens of thousands of care packages around the world each year.

“We were founded about 20 years ago on a mom’s dining room table,” said Kim Page with Military Missions. “Her son was in the Marine Corps and told her there were 16 other guys in his unit who didn’t get anything. So she started sending packages to all of them.”…
