In 1968, Kathy Shore volunteered to serve as an Army nurse at a front-line hospital during the Vietnam War. Back then, she was freshly 21 years old — and wholly unprepared.
Having just completed a nursing program at her Connecticut college during the height of the United States’ involvement in the war, Shore said she felt like it was her calling to nurse soldiers back to health. But the experience was not at all what she expected.
