Toledo’s pre-Prohibition red-light district topic of local history lecture

The Toledo Public Schools’ local history lecture series continues Thursday featuring a discussion about Toledo’s red-light district in the pre-Prohibition era, the school system said.

Author Doug Tracy will discuss his new book, Times, Crimes, and The Tenderloin in Pre-Prohibition Toledo at 7 p.m. at Woodward High School, 701 E. Central Ave.

The book is a “riveting account of the red-light district in the city, the heinous crimes, and the efforts to shut it down,” according to organizers. “His tales include the most notorious jailbreaker in the country at that time and the horrible murder of Mother Madge in her Notions and Fancy Goods shop.”…
