Douglas County judge sentences drunk driver in deadly Castle Rock auto-ped crash

CASTLE ROCK (KDVR) — A Douglas County judge has sentenced a 28-year-old man in a deadly Castle Rock crash that killed an elderly pedestrian and injured his wife.

Samuel Michael pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and other charges in connection with the February crash that killed 69-year-old Kraig Kazda. Prosecutors said Michael was driving drunk when he struck the couple in a crosswalk — and that his blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit two hours after the crash.

After two hours of emotional testimony, the judge sentenced Michael to four years in community corrections, with lesser sentences on other charges to run concurrently.
