Fast food fans in Sioux Falls are anxiously awaiting word of the fate of one of their staples.
Downsizing Alert
During a recent quarterly earnings call, Wendy’s Interim CEO Ken Cook told investors that the chain would be closing a ‘mid-single-digit percentage of the current 6,000 locations nationwide, or roughly 240 to 360 stores, as early as the end of this year. The announcement comes just a year after Wendy’s shuttered 140 locations.
A list of exact locations slated for closure has not been announced.
Local Presence
Sioux Falls currently has two Wendy’s locations: one at West 12th Street and Lyons Boulevard, and the other at Dawley Farms on the east side.
Back in November of 2021, the city lost its longtime Wendy’s at 41st Street and Louise Avenue. At that time, the local franchisee confirmed that the market could accommodate as many as four locations.

Wendy’s has struggled with sales compared to some of its competitors recently, reporting a 4.7% decrease in same-store sales —revenue generated by stores open for at least a year —and a 2.6% loss in global systemwide sales in the third quarter of 2025…
