Old Town Scottsdale is paying homage to its veterans and military personnel with the Scottsdale Salutes program, now in its fourth year. As reported by the City of Scottsdale’s news site, the Veterans Advisory Commission continues to spearhead the initiative to promote recognition of the community’s veterans. The commemorative banners adorn Drinkwater Boulevard, offering a visible tribute to these individuals’ service and dedication.
The banners, showcased through November 17, celebrate the life and deeds of veterans with ties to Scottsdale, notably including Winfield Scott, a Civil War veteran and the city’s founder, this year there’s a diverse array of honorees, ranging from World War II veterans like Edward Cornelius Ward to active service members like United States Marine Corps’ Jenny Colegate and Air Force’s Anna Griffin. Colegate, as highlighted by the City of Scottsdale’s news report, is a Saguaro High School and University of Arizona alumna whose 20+-year career includes service in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Japan, and she currently commands the Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia.
Another notable veteran is Frank Lambert, a West Point graduate who led his company during the critical Tet Offensive in Vietnam and was recognized with the Silver Star, Soldier’s Medal, and multiple Bronze Stars, among other commendations for his valor and leadership.
