Parkland Police Arrest Man After ‘Frogger’-Style Highway Escape and Foot Chase

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department found themselves in a pursuit straight out of an arcade game last week. Last Tuesday, in Parkland, a suspect made a bold dash for freedom by channeling the classic video game ‘Frogger,’ as he attempted to dodge cars on Highway 512 and even hitched a ride on the back of a box truck.

The incident began when deputies spotted a suspicious vehicle in an area known for criminal activity. Upon approach, a male was seen tampering with wires connected to the car’s ignition, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department’s blog. The car turned out to be stolen, its license plates swapped, and when the deputies attempted arrests, the situation escalated with the suspect initially grabbing onto a female accomplice, then breaking free and sprinting towards the freeway.

In a desperate bid for escape, the suspect engaged in a perilous dash across the highway. He managed to grab onto a box truck, clinging onto it for about 50 yards before the unknowing driver pulled over and the suspect jumped off, continuing his escape on foot. He was eventually spotted running into the Mandalay Townhomes complex where a sergeant apprehended him after a short pursuit…
