Former Pickens County Deputy Charles Gillette dies after cancer battle

PICKENS COUNTY, Ga. — Charles Gillette, a former Pickens County Sheriff’s Office deputy who served as one of the agency’s original school resource officers, died after a battle with cancer, the sheriff’s office announced.

Gillette was among the first school resource officers when the sheriff’s office took over law enforcement duties for the Pickens County School District. He became known as a trusted figure among students, teachers and staff during his tenure, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
