Local cold weather shelters prove successful during arctic blast

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Mobile shivered through an intense cold snap, with temperatures dipping to 28 in Mobile — well below freezing. The sudden drop triggered a critical response from local organizations, opening their doors to provide warmth and safety.

Waterfront Mission saw a steady stream of people seeking refuge. Region Director Erick Lindmark, told us operations ran smoothly, providing a much-needed haven from the harsh conditions.

A total of 88 individuals found warmth and a safe place to sleep overnight. The shelter even had dedicated trailers on standby for pets, provided by Mobile County Animal Shelter…
