Randall County cracking down on fentanyl

RANDALL COUNTY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — A newer murder statute in the state of Texas that has been in effect for a little over two years, and it is cracking down on fentanyl.

Randall County District Attorney Robert Love said this statute went into effect on September 1, 2023. He said that if someone passes on or gives someone fentanyl and if they die from taking that fentanyl, they can be charged with murder.

He added they have had two cases presented to them that they have followed through with and filed as this type of fentanyl murder.

“We have seen in our county in that time period, we have seen two cases that have fit under the statute, and with the assistance of the Amarillo Police Department in both of those cases, I believe, we have investigated those cases. We have worked with them very closely because it is new and we wanted to make sure that we had our Is dotted and Ts crossed as a part of the investigation, and we have gone forward, and the grand jury has indicted two of them,” said Love…
