El Pasoans brace for possibility of rising natural gas bills

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Texas Gas Service is proposing a rate increase that could raise monthly bills for El Paso households beginning next year.

According to the natural gas utility, small residential customers would see bills go up by about $10.38 per month, while large residential customers could see an increase of about $14.64. The company says the change would help recover system investments, cover higher operational costs, and maintain safe, reliable service. If approved, the new rates could take effect as soon as February.

“While the decision to increase rates is difficult, it is necessary to deliver the safe and reliable service our community needs,” Texas Gas Service said in a statement. “It’s been three years since our last rate case in El Paso. The proposed increase helps us keep families warm and safe, support local jobs, and prepare for future growth. For customers who are struggling to pay their utility bills, please contact us.
