SAPD officer jailed, accused of assaulting a child with hand, ‘object’

A tenured patrol officer with the San Antonio Police Department, Jacob Ryan, found himself on the other side of the law on Tuesday, November 11. He was booked into the Bexar County Jail on three felony counts of injury to a child, though he was released on bond within hours.

Ryan, 32, is facing three third-degree felony counts, punishable by 2 to 10 years in state prison. A copy of his indictment — a ruling from a secret jury that determines whether prosecutors have enough evidence to formally charge someone with a crime — shows investigators are accusing him of hitting a child under 14 with his hand and “an object unknown Grand Jurors.” The document also says he picked up the child by the arm and hit them on another occasion.

The alleged incidents all occurred in 2024 on February 13, March 21 and June 10, according to court records.
