ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) –Even in the midst of the snow this afternoon, the Albany Police Department lined the corner of Lincoln Park with grocery donations, supporting the community in their time of need.
Last night the department posted an announcement on their social media, calling for community members in need to come out to Lincoln Park to receive a free bag of groceries.
“The idea was to do a pop up where we could give those groceries back to the community, try to help people and take care of some of their food insecurity,” stated Albany Police Chief Brendan Cox. “We know it’s probably not enough, but any little bit can try to give back.”

It all started when one of their crime advocates, Erin Shay, recognized the growing need in the community. She worked with the department, the Central Avenue Business Improvement District, and the Police and Fire Foundation to put together eighty bags of groceries…
