The incident happened around 9:41 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, when Little Ferry Officer Gaetano Fernandes saw a gray Lexus with Virginia plates pull out of the Knights Inn and travel west on Route 46, Chief James Walters said. The car had a headlight out and tinted windows, prompting a stop.
The driver, identified as Fuquan H. Leonard, 35, told police he traveled to New Jersey every week from Virginia to watch his son play college football, according to Walters. His girlfriend, a Richmond resident, and her 2-year-old son were also in the car.
During questioning, Leonard appeared nervous and avoided answering questions about where he was staying, Walters said. A record check revealed 28 prior arrests in New Jersey and an active Hudson County warrant for terroristic threats, along with suspended driver’s licenses in both New Jersey and Virginia…
