Dozens of baggage handlers at Charlotte airport laid off amid government shutdown

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Dozens of baggage handlers at Charlotte Douglas International Airport were laid off this month amid the government shutdown.

According to a WARN notice obtained by WBTV on Monday, Nov. 10, more than 50 employees with Bags, a Metropolis company, were officially terminated on Saturday, Nov. 1.

The layoffs are expected to be permanent. The report also noted that none of the affected employees have bumping rights or are represented by a union.

  • Baggage handler: 27
  • BSO agent: 23
  • Facility manager: 1
  • Lead supervisor: 1
  • Supervisor: 4
