Smithville Man Identified in Fatal Clarksville Pike Crash; Investigation Underway into Previous Misidentification

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Authorities have identified the man killed in Saturday’s two-vehicle collision on Clarksville Pike at Bobel Lane as 41-year-old Dustin McLeod of Smithville. The man’s identity has been confirmed and officials report they also confirmed that McLeod was initially misidentified following the crash. The Traffic Division leadership has launched an internal review to determine how the misidentification occurred.

According to the preliminary investigation, the crash happened around 1 p.m. Saturday when a 2004 Nissan Titan pickup, driven by 60-year-old James Brewington Jr., was heading south on Clarksville Pike. Brewington reportedly swerved into oncoming traffic after going around a vehicle making a right turn onto Bobel Lane, striking a northbound 2016 Jeep Renegade driven by McLeod head-on.

McLeod was transported to Skyline Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. Brewington remains hospitalized at Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious injuries…
