Elks Club owner offers to give building to the city with condition attached

ROCKFORD — A City Council vote to demolish the former Elks Lodge No. 64 wasn’t the end of an effort to keep the historic building standing.

Since the council’s split vote, the owner of the property and Mayor Tom McNamara’s administration have exchanged offers that would turn ownership of the 113-year-old structure at the corner of Jefferson and North Main streets over to the city.

However, so far neither side is willing to take up the other’s proposed deal…
