Grand jury indicts Akron man accused of firing gun inside Bar Lucci in Kent

KENT, Ohio — Jack Massie III, the 19-year-old Akron man accused of firing gunshots inside Bar Lucci in Kent last month has been indicted by a Portage County grand jury.

Court documents show Massie was indicted last week on the following charges:

  • Having weapons under disability (with a 3-year firearm specification)
  • Possession of a firearm in liquor permit premises
  • Tampering with evidence (with a 3-year firearm specification)
  • Inducing panic (with a 3-year firearm specification)
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Aggravated menacing

In 2023, Massie pleaded guilty to felonious assault in Summit County and was sentenced to four to six years in prison. Because of the conviction, he was forbidden to “acquire, have, carry, or use any firearm or dangerous ordinance,” thus adding the charge of having weapons under disability to the indictment.

Bond for Massie was set at $250,000 with a pretrial hearing scheduled for Nov. 19. The trial is slated to start on Dec. 16.
