Melbourne Makes Some Noise: Bagpipers Break Record with AC/DC Anthem

Melbourne, Australia, recently rocked to the sound of bagpipes in a truly unique world record attempt. A massive ensemble of 374 bagpipers gathered at Federation Square to perform AC/DC’s iconic hit, “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll),” smashing the previous record for the largest bagpipe ensemble.

The “Great Melbourne Bagpipe Bash” brought together pipers from far and wide, just a stone’s throw from where the original 1976 music video for the song was filmed. Adding to the historic occasion, Kevin Conlon and Les Kenfield, members of the Rats of Tobruk Pipe Band who actually appeared in AC/DC’s original video, joined in the record-breaking performance.

The previous Guinness World Record was held by 333 pipers who played together in Bulgaria back in 2012. Melbourne’s grand display has now firmly etched its name in the record books, proving that when it comes to rock ‘n’ roll with a Scottish twist, Australians know how to make some serious noise!
