On November 10, 2025, the City of Augusta, Georgia, announced the opening of several warming centers. This action is in response to forecasted temperatures dropping into the low 30s. The centers provide safe overnight shelter for residents.
To use these shelters, individuals need a shelter clearance. Before 5:00 PM, clearances are available in person at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Records Bureau. After 5:00 PM, residents can call the Sheriff’s Office Dispatcher. A deputy will then assist with documentation.
Augusta Transit is offering free transportation to the warming shelters from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Pick-up locations are at the Broad Street Transfer Facility and May Park Community Center.
