‘Very stressful’ East TN families scramble for food while waiting for SNAP benefits

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Tennessee Department of Human Services announced it will be issuing 65% of SNAP benefits to SNAP recipients beginning Wednesday after the Department received updated guidance from the US Department of Agriculture, which funds the program.

“I wish they would honestly give us the full benefit, just to help some of these parents that actually rely on food stamps for feeding their children and families,” said SNAP recipient Tatyanna Williams.

Will SNAP benefits be paid as soon as the government shutdown ends?

Despite what is happening in Washington, D.C., there is still uncertainty about when SNAP benefits will return. Williams told 6 News she has only received $16 from SNAP so far, when she is typically awarded $400.

“As a single parent, it is very stressful and can be very overstimulating for anybody out here doing it on their own. I’m grateful to have pantries and things that we can go to be able to survive. It’s not easy for anyone right now, honestly,” she said…
