KNOXVILLE, Tennessee — Four more patients are suing a Knoxville surgery center alleging poor care, doubling the number of complaints filed against it in Knox County Circuit Court.
10News reported in May about the first four patients. The East Tennesseans allege they became infected with a virulent, unusual form of bacteria during 2023 knee procedures at Parkwest Surgery Center that resulted in months of pain and frustration, emergency room visits and repeated follow-up operations when their original surgeries failed to heal.
Since WBIR’s spring stories, another four patients have filed suit — in August and September — echoing ongoing allegations against Parkwest Surgery Center. Most allege they were sickened by the bacteria during 2024 hip procedures, months after the surgery center sent previous patients a letter alerting them to a possible outbreak of Mycobacterium fortuitum.
Anthony Cannon, repeating allegations contained in his lawsuit, told WBIR this fall he thinks the center and its doctors put profit over patient care. The surgery center and medical staff kept doing procedures even after they knew they had a problem, he said…
