Northern Lights may dazzle across Alabama again tonight

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — The Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis danced across the night sky across Alabama on Tuesday thanks to a severe geometric storm and if you missed it last night, you may have another chance.

What’s happening:The northern lights or aurora borealis occur when coronal mass ejections (CMEs) or solar flares emit from the sun and head towards earth. When these solar flares collide with the earth’s atmosphere it triggers a geomagnetic storm and thus creates the beautiful aurora borealis.

The stronger the storm, the further south we will be able to see the northern lights.

Will we see them again? There is a good chance that locations in the US and Canada will experience the northern lights again this evening but it becomes a little bit more complicated for the southern states like Alabama and Georgia…
