End of an Era: Barrio Logan’s Las Cuatro Milpas to Close After Sale to Religious Organization

Barrio Logan’s cherished culinary landmark, Las Cuatro Milpas, is due to serve its last plate of authentic Mexican cuisine as the establishment’s property has been sold. According to NBC San Diego, the iconic family-run restaurant, which has withstood the tests of time and industry since 1933, was purchased for $2.210 million after an unexpected surge in bids from an initial listing just below $2 million.

The transaction covers the parcels at 1851–1853 Logan Avenue, including the restaurant and adjacent mixed-use property known as La Victoria. Realtor Voltaire Lepe, quoted in a report by SanDiegoVille, confirmed the finalized sale price of $2.275 million. Lepe chose not to reveal the buyer, yet information obtained by SanDiegoVille identifies the purchaser as Iglesia del Dios Vivo Columna, Inc., the owner of the controversial international religious organization La Luz del Mundo, whose leader is embroiled in legal strife.

Grappling with tax burdens and health violations in recent years, the decision to sell was not an easy one for the Estudillo family. “They won’t be operating the restaurant anymore. Everyone is really sad that it will be closing, but they’ve been working for a long time, so they want to retire,” said Lepe in a statement, per Hoodline.
