Lafayette voters to decide fate of ‘no-kill’ shelter funding

Stray dogs are a common sight in much of rural Louisiana, where underfunded animal control departments can do little besides lock them in a shelter, where many are eventually killed to make space for new arrivals.

Not so in Lafayette.

For five years now, Lafayette’s animal shelter has been a no-kill facility, meaning it now saves over 90% of the animals that come through its doors. That’s up from 40% in 2017…
