City of Broussard officially designated a Louisiana Main Street community

BATON ROUGE, La. – Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser and Louisiana Main Street announce the City of Broussard has achieved full designation as a Louisiana Main Street community, recognizing the city’s commitment to historic preservation and downtown revitalization. The designation marks the successful completion of Broussard’s participation in the Louisiana Main Street Lagniappe Community Program, which assists local governments in developing sustainable, community-driven strategies to preserve historic assets while stimulating local economies.

“Across Louisiana, our Main Street communities are preserving the stories, buildings, and traditions that make our towns unique,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “Broussard’s dedication to restoring its historic downtown reflects the very best of Louisiana – communities that honor their past while creating vibrant, welcoming spaces for residents and visitors. This designation ensures Broussard’s historic heart will continue to be a source of pride and progress for generations to come.”

The Broussard Main Street District follows East Main Street from Bernard Road to Albertson Parkway, encompassing the city’s historic corridor and cultural core. The district features several notable 19th- and early 20th-century buildings that reflect the community’s Acadian and Creole heritage.
