Amy Anderson, a criminal justice graduate from The University of New Mexico-Gallup, became the first student from the branch campus to complete an internship with the Gallup Police Department. The internship may lead to future collaborations between the university and local law enforcement, providing more opportunities for students.
Anderson’s internship lasted three months, from February to April 2025. She participated in various police activities. The Gallup Police Department held a luncheon in May 2025 to recognize her work. Police Chief Erin Toadlena-Pablo presented Anderson with a Certificate of Student Internship and noted her dedication during the program. Anderson thanked the department and said she gained valuable knowledge about law enforcement.
During the internship, Anderson compiled statistical data on missing police reports and observed detectives to learn about investigative techniques, fingerprinting, and police equipment. She joined training sessions with police recruits, learning defensive tactics and de-escalation techniques, and acted as a role player in exercises. Sgt.
