(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Colorado’s Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments regarding federal alleged police brutality cases that occurred in Colorado Springs.
On Nov. 20, the court will hear arguments on the paralyzation of 31-year-old Jacob Root, which launched a $100 million lawsuit against Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officer Robert Comstock. The law firm that represents Root alleges that Comstock’s “recklessness and disregard for procedure left Root, who was unarmed and posed no threat, paralyzed from the chest down.”
Previous reporting coverage states that the incident stemmed from a car theft case in which multiple CSPD units, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO), and the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) found Root at a Kum & Go gas station on Airport Road. A brief chase followed and resulted in Comstock tasing Root, who fell face-first down an incline.
In a bodycam video released in 2024, Root can be heard saying that he can’t move. After he was tased, he lost control of his arms, making him unable to break his fall, leaving him paralyzed…
