Salem has launched a Lien Forgiveness Program for property owners with unpaid code violation penalties. The program is temporary. Owners who fix code violations and restore their properties by June 30, 2026, can have unpaid penalties and derelict structure fees forgiven. The goal is to encourage property owners to comply with maintenance codes. This includes issues like trash, debris, and abandoned buildings.
Mitch Nickolds, Salem’s Compliance Services Manager, said the program will reduce financial pressure on property owners. It may also make it easier to transfer or repair properties.
