Man’s dishonorable discharge overturned 20 years after his death

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Twenty-one years after his death, a Western New York man’s dishonorable discharge has been overturned. And it’s all thanks to his loving husband, who never stopped fighting for the truth.

“(He was) very charismatic, very caring,” Charles Palmatier-Maynard said about his widow. “We met in the summer of ’89 and had a civil union.”

Charles Palmatier-Maynard said his first husband, Wayne Wood, was so proud of his military services. He was a sharpshooter in Vietnam. But at that time, being gay was grounds for firing in the Army…
